Body Lift

Comprehensive contouring

For patients ready for significant, lasting transformation

A body lift addresses multiple areas of excess skin and laxity — typically the abdomen, flanks, back, and buttocks — in a single or staged procedure. It is most commonly performed following significant weight loss. At Surgical Suites of Beverly Hills, body lift surgery is performed in a fully equipped private OR with an experienced team prepared for longer, complex contouring procedures.

Comprehensive contouring. Expert care. A transformed silhouette.

What is a body lift?

A lower body lift (belt lipectomy) removes excess skin and fat circumferentially around the lower torso — tightening the abdomen, outer thighs, and buttocks in one procedure. An upper body lift addresses the back, flanks, and bra-line area. Staging (performing procedures separately) is sometimes recommended based on the patient's health and the extent of correction needed. All procedures are performed under general anesthesia with extended OR time.

What are the benefits of a Body Lift

  • Removal of large volumes of excess skin following weight loss
  • Comprehensive contouring of the abdomen, flanks, back, and buttocks
  • Dramatically improved body silhouette
  • Elimination of skin rashes and hygiene issues from skin folds
  • Improvement in mobility and comfort in some patients
  • Long-lasting results with weight maintenance
  • Can be staged for patient safety when extensive correction is needed
  • Performed in a private, surgical suite

FAQs

Common questions about this service and what to expect.

Will I need a follow-up appointment at the facility?

Post-operative follow-up is coordinated through your surgeon's office. Given the extent of this procedure, close follow-up is an important part of your recovery plan.

Is body lift covered by insurance?

Some insurance plans cover body lift following medically supervised weight loss when skin-related medical issues are documented. Your surgeon can assist in preparing documentation for coverage review.

What type of anesthesia is used?

Body lift at our facility is performed under general anesthesia, administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist throughout the procedure.

Can body lift be combined with other procedures?

Yes — thigh lift, arm lift, and breast procedures are commonly combined or staged alongside body lift as part of a comprehensive post-weight-loss surgery plan.

What is the ideal weight to be at before a body lift?

Most surgeons recommend being within 10–15% of your goal weight and maintaining it for at least 6–12 months before surgery. Significant weight fluctuation after body lift can compromise results.

Will there be significant scarring?

Yes — body lift surgery involves extensive incisions. Scars are placed low and circumferentially to be hidden by undergarments. They fade over 12–24 months but are permanent. The improvement in body shape typically far outweighs scarring concerns for most patients.

Is a body lift done in one surgery or multiple stages?

This depends on the extent of correction and the patient's overall health. Some patients benefit from staging the procedures to minimize surgical time and reduce risk. Your surgeon will recommend the safest and most effective approach at your consultation.

How long does body lift recovery take?

Recovery from a lower body lift is typically 3–6 weeks for most activity restrictions. This is one of the more demanding recoveries in cosmetic surgery — adequate planning and home support are essential. Full activity resumes gradually over 6–8 weeks.
