Arm Lift

Firm, defined arms

Addressing what no amount of exercise can fully change

Excess skin and fat on the upper arms — 'bat wings' — is a common concern after weight loss or with age, and it's one of the most difficult areas to improve without surgery. An arm lift removes the excess for a smoother, more defined arm contour. At Surgical Suites of Beverly Hills, brachioplasty is performed in a private OR with a dedicated team experienced in body contouring.

Firm, defined arms. Board-certified care. Lasting results.

What is an arm lift?

A brachioplasty (arm lift) removes excess skin and fat from the upper arm — from the elbow to the armpit — and tightens the remaining skin for improved contour. Liposuction can be combined for fat reduction in cases where skin laxity is moderate. The incision runs along the inner arm. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes 1–2 hours. Most patients return home the same day.

FAQs

Common questions about this service and what to expect.

Will I need a follow-up appointment at the facility?

Post-operative follow-up is coordinated through your surgeon's office. Our team is available to support you throughout recovery.

Is arm lift covered by insurance?

Cosmetic brachioplasty is not covered by insurance. Coverage may apply in cases of significant excess skin causing functional issues following documented weight loss.

What type of anesthesia is used?

Arm lift at our facility is performed under general anesthesia, administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist.

How long do results last?

Results are long-lasting with stable weight. Aging and gravity continue over time, but the improvement is durable.

Can arm lift be combined with other procedures?

Yes — arm lift is commonly performed alongside body lift, thigh lift, or breast surgery as part of a comprehensive post-weight-loss plan.

Can liposuction replace an arm lift?

Liposuction alone is appropriate for patients with adequate skin elasticity and primarily excess fat. Patients with loose, hanging skin require excision (arm lift) to achieve a meaningful improvement. Your surgeon will advise the right approach for your anatomy.

Will there be visible scarring?

Yes — arm lift leaves a scar along the inner arm from the elbow to the armpit. This is the primary trade-off of the procedure. Most patients find the scar fades significantly over 12–18 months and is not visible in clothing.

How long does arm lift recovery take?

Most patients take 1–2 weeks off work and resume light activity within 1–2 weeks. Arms should be kept elevated when possible to reduce swelling. Strenuous upper-body activity is restricted for 4–6 weeks.
